Senator Wielechowski to Debunk Myths in Fairbanks About Oil Taxes
JUNEAU – Senator Bill Wielechowski (D – Anchorage) announced today that he will be presenting on oil taxes at a public forum in Fairbanks at the invitation by former Mayor Jim Whitaker.
During the presentation, Senator Wielechowski will present the Administration’s claims regarding oil taxes and offer a competing perspective, based on facts provided by the Administration and its consultants.
The presentation will take place at Noel Wien Public Library Auditorium on Monday, February 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“This is the most pressing issue facing Alaskans today,” Senator Wielechowski said. “The public deserves to hear both sides of the story. I will do my best to present both sides, relying on facts everyone agrees on.”
Wielechowski noted that if the Governor’s proposal is enacted, it will plunge the state into deficit spending this year, precipitating cuts to education, public safety and other critical state services. As a result, the public needs to be fully engaged in this debate.
“I encourage all Alaskans to educate themselves about oil taxes,” Senator Wielechowski said. “No other issue has the potential to affect our future so much and cause so much economic devastation. This is not an issue to ignore.”
