Senate Democrats Announce Leadership Transition
Senator French to serve as Minority Leader in second session of 28th Alaska State Legislature
ANCHORAGE – Today Senator Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) and Senator Hollis French (D-Anchorage) announced a pre-arranged transition in minority leadership from Senator Ellis to Senator French. The original announcement occurred on January 15, 2013.
“As was done in the 27th Alaska Legislature by the Senate Minority, our caucus decided to split leadership duties during the 28th Alaska Legislature. I was honored to serve as Minority Leader during the first session and I am eager to support Senator French in his new role as the Minority Leader for the second session,” said Senator Johnny Ellis.
“I am excited for the opportunity to serve as Minority Leader of the Senate Democrats. We will continue to work as a team advocating an agenda where government works for all Alaskans,” stated Senator French.
Senator Ellis represents Alaska Senate District I, compromised of the neighborhoods of Airport Heights, Downtown, Fairview, Government Hill, Mountain View, Russian Jack, and South Addition. Senator French serves Alaska Senate District J which is composed of Turnagain and Sand Lake in West Anchorage.
The second session of the 28th Alaska Legislature commences on January 21st, at which time Senator French will begin officially serving as Minority Leader of the Senate Democrats.
