29th Annual “This Will Be Televised” Sham Jam A Box Office Success
JUNEAU – On Thursday Senator Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) and organizers of the Alaska Young Democrats annual charity fundraiser, The Sham Jam, presented Kelly Manning and Jacinda Ryan (who debuts her first solo art show at the Canvas in July) of the Canvas Arts Center with a check for $4,500.
In its 29th year, the Sham Jam is an annual event organized and hosted by Alaska Young Democrats to benefit a local Juneau charity. A volunteer committee selects a theme, such as this years “This Sham Jam Will Be Televised,” and tickets are sold throughout Juneau. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the charity of choice. This year’s event raised $4,500.
“I never imagined 29 years ago the Sham Jam would become a legislative institution. I am proud to be part of an event that welcomes all and benefits a fantastic group like The Canvas, which is such a valuable asset to the community of Juneau,” said Senator Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage).
This year the event benefited The Canvas Arts Center. A division of REACH, the Canvas provides studio, pottery, and gallery facilities for the Juneau arts community with the goal of providing a supportive environment that fosters creativity and inclusion of adults with disabilities through shared art experiences and exhibitions.
