Senate Adopts Ellis Amendment on Knik Arm Bridge
“No destruction before construction financing” plan approval
JUNEAU – Today the Alaska Senate adopted an amendment offered by Senator Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) that would prevent the use of eminent domain to destroy properties in the residential neighborhoods of Government Hill until complete project financing is approved.
“Threatening businesses and homeowners before securing a complete finance plan is irresponsible,” said Senator Ellis.
A TIFIA loan (Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act of 1998) represents a significant portion of the financing necessary to advance the Knik Arm Crossing project. Despite 5 applications, the Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority has failed to secure TIFIA financing.
