Senator French Calls for Legislature to Finish by Midnight
JUNEAU – Senator Hollis French (D-Anchorage), the minority leader in the Senate, today called for the legislature to complete its business by midnight on the last day of the session.
“The House and Senate have been at odds since the last minute filing of the minimum wage bill in the House. Add to that the clash over education funding and the process has slowed down considerably. I remain hopeful that my colleagues can set ideological differences aside and do the right thing for the students, teachers and parents who have advocated tirelessly this year for an increase in the BSA of $404 plus inflation proofing,” stated Senator French.
French followed, “All the legislative pieces are in place to finish on time. All we need is some strong leadership. The largest remaining task to finish is the education bill. There is plenty of time to debate and vote on this measure. This was supposed to be the Year of Education and I and my colleagues in the Minority are prepared to work as long as it takes today to get the job done on time.”
