Senator Gardner Statement Regarding Medicaid Restraining Order Decision
Today Judge Frank Pfiffner announced his decision to deny the restraining order requested by legislative Republican leadership to block Medicaid expansion. Senate Minority Leader Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage) released the following statement regarding that decision:
“Today’s court decision to allow Medicaid expansion to go forward in September is the next positive step in finally getting health care coverage to thousands of Alaskans who need it. Attorneys for Republican legislative leadership failed to make a case strong enough to gain even a temporary injunction against the expansion.
“I sincerely hope they view this decision, along with the four legal opinions from our own attorneys, as confirmation that their arguments are not valid, and that they should save the state hundreds of thousands of dollars and drop their suit against the Walker Administration.
“Most importantly, I am happy for the Alaskans who will finally have access to good health care coverage, and I am glad the state will finally participate in a program that will benefit all of Alaska economically, and provide thousands of good jobs in our state.”
