Senate Minority Leader Berta Gardner responds to the downgrading of the State of Alaska’s Credit Rating
ANCHORAGE – Yesterday, the credit ratings agency Standard and Poor’s downgraded the State of Alaska’s credit rating from its highest rating of AAA, to AA+. Senate Minority Leader Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage) responded to this disappointing turn of events.
“Standard & Poor’s decision to downgrade Alaska’s credit rating is unfortunate, and stresses the urgency with which we must buckle down and work together in Juneau this session,” Gardner said. “We have major work to do, and should take this challenge as an opportunity to earnestly talk about our vision for a financially stable future for Alaska, which fairly utilizes our financial, human, and natural resources. We must not only face the significant work of balancing the budget now, but we must move forward prudently with a goal of long-term sustainability. It is a time for expansive thinking, and bipartisan cooperation.”
