In response to the recent proposed cuts to low-income senior benefits from the House Finance Committee, and comments from committee member Rep. Lynn Gattis (R-Wasilla) in the news today, Senator Berta Gardner spoke up for Alaska’s seniors.
“When times are tough, we need tighten our belts, yes,” said Sen. Gardner (D-Anchorage). “We also need to honor our promises and protect those who are most vulnerable, who have invested their time and treasure in this state. These seniors are our pioneers, our parents, our grandparents. We should honor them and their desire to keep families together and to spend their golden years in the state they helped to build, not show them the way out.”
