Great Seeing You!

Cuddy Family Park BBQ.
Cuddy Family Park BBQ.

I am delighted with the turnout at both of our recent picnic events. Thank you to all who were able to join us at Cuddy Park and/or David Green Park.

There are a variety of reasons for having the picnics:  We want to meet as many of you as possible and we’d like for you to get to know us and have an opportunity to chat informally about whatever is on your mind.  Equally importantly, we believe in community and in neighborliness and we hope that these gathering will help to introduce people to each other and to increase the sense of shared interests. Finally, your opinions and expressed needs help us to better represent you in government. We can do that most effectively when we know you personally. Whether there are issues you’d like to discuss or if you’d like to meet your legislator, this is a great time to do it.

Midtown Neighborhood BBQ

Our plan of having two events was very successful and we will repeat it each year after the legislative session ends and before fishing season starts.  We are considering whether it is best to use the same location year after year, or to visit different parks or schools.  Some people commented that they had never before visited the parks we used this year, and I think there is a lot to be said for encouraging folks to know their parks and local schools.

Every location offers benefits and disadvantages:  Cuddy Family and David Green Parks are both lovely parks but neither has restrooms.  Cuddy Park had several other group events coinciding with ours  - making it a bit challenging to for folks to find us (Yes, in future, we will have signs or a banner) and David Green Park has inadequate parking for our needs. Please feel free to send your thoughts and suggestions for next year’s picnics. Know of a diamond-in-the-ruff somewhere in midtown? Let us know about it! We’d love to share it with the neighbors.

If you weren’t able to make it to either Midtown Neighborhood BBQ this year, we hope to see you next time! In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact my office with any questions or concerns.

I’m Berta and I’m still listening,

PS: For those of you who are following the Bragaw Road Extension (aka Northern Access U-Med Extension Project), there will be an “Open House and Visioning” Session tomorrow, June 4th, from 5:30-7:30pm at Wendler Middle School. This will be an opportunity for the community to voice their opinions on the project and the various alternatives that are being discussed. I’m attaching a flyer with more information to this email.

PSS: Hope you enjoy the photos from the BBQs!
