September Community Councils

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Community Councils are a great way to get involved in your neighborhood. They can help with quality of life issues by advocating for street rehabilitation, code enforcement or promoting community projects. They are your voice to the city and the state government.

After a summer break, most Community Councils begin their monthy meetings in September and are open to all residents or property owners.  I encourage you to attend your community council if you have a concern or want to become more involved. Below are upcoming dates and locations. If you don’t know which community council you belong to, just click the community council link and it will take you to a map of its boundary and website.   You can also explore agendas of upcoming meetings and minutes of previous meetings.

Campbell Park Community Council: September 17 at 7:30 pm at Tudor Elementary School. 1666 Cache Drive.

Midtown Community Council: September 9 at 7:00 pm at the Wells Fargo Alaska heritage Museum. 301 West Northern Lights Boulevard.

North Star Community Council: September 9 at 7:00 pm in the library of North Star Elementary School. 605 West Fireweed Lane.

Rogers Park Community Council: September 14 at 7:00 pm in the library of Rogers Park Elementary. 1400 East Northern Lights Boulevard.

Russian Jack Community Council: September 9 at 6:30 pm at Wonder Park Elementary. 5101 East 4th Avenue.

Spenard Community Council: September 2 at 7:00 pm at Spenard Rec Center. 2020 W 48th Avenue.

Tudor Area Community Council: September 3 at 7:00 pm at the First Church of God. 4317 MacInnes Street.

Turnagain Community Council: September 3 at 7:00 pm at Turnagain Methodist Church. 3300 West Northern Lights Boulevard.

University Area Community Council: September 2 at 7:00 pm at the University Baptist Church. 4313 Wright Street.

One community issue that is dear to my heart is the University Lake Park development, which will include trails, a dog park, and other green space for neighbors to enjoy.  On Thursday, September 10th, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the BP Energy Center (900 E. Benson Blvd), there will be an open house to discuss this new park and how it can improve the University area neighborhood.  Please consider attending this event to hear more about the park and join in this important conversation.

I’m Berta and I’m still listening,

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office.
