Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Rep. Max Gruenberg

We were all shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Rep. Max Gruenberg. Max and I represented East Anchorage together for the last nine years and I will truly miss his kind, gentle spirit. Max was one of our longest-serving legislators and was a mentor to me and many other legislators. I will remember Max for the enthusiasm he had for helping the people of our district and his incredible respect for the legislative institution. He was well-respected by everyone, always did what he felt was right and stood up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. His loss is a loss for all of Alaska.

What Happens Now?

The Alaska Democratic Party is required to forward three replacement names to the Governor within 21 days. Under State statute, the Governor must appoint a replacement for Rep. Gruenberg within 30 days. The House Democrats must then vote on any replacement.

During this time, Max’s staff, Ted Madsen and Nicoli Bailey will continue to work in Juneau and are available to assist constituents. I have offered to help Max’s office in any way possible. If you have issues that you need help with, my office is always ready to assist, so please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Saying Farewell

To pay your respects to this great man, please join Max’s wife, Kayla, his family and friends in honoring his legacy:

WHAT:  Honoring the Life of Representative Max Gruenberg

WHEN: Thursday, February 25th, 5:30pm – 8:30pm

WHERE:  Congregation Beth Sholom (7525 E. Northern Lights Blvd., Anchorage)

Of course, all are welcome, as Max would have wanted.

Farewell, Max.  You will be missed.
