Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you very much to all who attended our town hall meeting last Saturday or spoke up at Anchorage Caucus. Both events were an opportunity to hear the variety of perspectives in our community and to learn more about what matters to you.

Thank you Verona Gentry for sharing your thoughts with me, Rep. Gruenberg, and Rep. LeDoux at our town hall meeting last weekend

Weigh in on Proposed Cuts!

Due to a projected budget shortfall of $3.5 billion this year, we cannot avoid making some painful cuts to state programs and services. However, I am committed to seeing this done responsibly. My priorities are to protect education and early learning, support vulnerable Alaskans, safeguard adequate public safety and ensure the State’s economy remains strong – and your input is key to making this happen!

Tomorrow afternoon and evening, the House Finance Committee is holding public testimony for Anchorage to weigh in on next year’s Operating Budget, which includes the following cuts:

• 19.8% to public education
• 20% to the Senior Benefits program for low income, older adults
• 50% to public broadcasting
• Elimination of the pilot program for Pre-Kindergarten
• Elimination of most Alaska State Trooper highway patrols

To weigh in on these, or some of the other reductions, I encourage you to testify tomorrow or submit your comments in writing.

To Testify in-Person:

When: Thursday, March 5, 2015 frm 1:00-4:30 pm
• Sign-up early to testify: sheets will be available up to an hour beforehand

Where: Anchorage Legislative Information Office (716 W. 4th Ave., Suite 100)

To Testify Telephonically:

When:  Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 6:00 – 9:00pm
Call: 844-586-9085

To Submit Written Testimony:

If you are unable attend or call in, or would simply like to put your priorities on paper, you can email the House Finance Committee directly at lhscfin@akleg.gov.

You are also always welcome to contact me directly. I am here to represent you!

Warmly,

[signed]
