THIS SATURDAY: Opening Day at the Muldoon Farmer's Market!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Muldoon Farmers MarketA new market is coming to town! Opening day of the Muldoon Farmers Market is this Saturday, June 27th at Begich Middle School (7440 Creekside Center Drive) from 9am to 2pm.

The Muldoon Farmers Market is a grassroots, all-volunteer effort to bring Alaska-grown produce and locally-sourced goods to East Anchorage. Shop, eat and get to know others in our community while enjoying local food, creative arts, entertainment and more!

For even more info, like the market on Facebook, follow on Twitter or visit www.muldoonfarmersmarket.org. Have some raspberry plants, fresh eggs, rhubarb or handmade artwork you'd like to sell? There are still spaces left and spaces are only $10-$20.  I’ll see you and your family at the Muldoon Farmers Market!

Gas Line Update

Last week, the Senate and House Resource committees held joint hearings in Kenai and Nikiski. We heard a quarterly update on the AK LNG Project and toured some of the facilities involved in its construction and future operations. I appreciated the opportunity to visit the ASRC Energy warehouse, as well as property that was recently acquired to house the liquefaction plant. At this site, we viewed a borehole drilling simulation for testing soil integrity.

The hearings also included an overview of Alaska’s oil and gas tax credits, where unfortunately the Department of Revenue confirmed that for the first time in history, Alaska is experiencing a negative tax structure as we are paying out $642 million more in oil tax credits than we receive in oil production taxes. It was also revealed that North Dakota’s production tax rate is substantially higher than Alaska’s.

It is critical that these issues be examined in further detail. I look forward to continuing these important discussions with my colleagues in the hopes of finding a viable solution for Alaska.

I went to Kenai and Nikiski for an update on the Alaska LNG project & a site tour of the land purchased for a proposed liquefaction plant in Kenai
