NEIGHBORHOOD PUBLIC SAFETY RESOURCES

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We all have a right to feel safe in our homes and neighborhoods. In addition to the work of law enforcement, community engagement is the number one way we can prevent crime in our neighborhood.
Here are some resources that will help you stay informed, connect with law enforcement when needed, and help prevent crime in our East Anchorage community:

TEXT & EMAIL ALERTS

Did you know?  With NIXLE, you can receive regular updates from the Anchorage Police Department via text or email.  To learn about major road closures, public safety incidents and what your police department is up to, text your ZIP code to 888777 or sign up at: https://local.nixle.com/register.

COMMUNITY PATROLS

East Anchorage has been fortunate to have some great community volunteers watching out for our neighborhood safety.  Community Patrol members help patrol local streets, offer standby assistance for tows and stranded motorists, provide traffic control, assist police officers as needed, help search for missing children and at-risk adults, and more.

§  Nunaka Valley Community Patrol – 726-7044
§  College Gate Community Patrol – 444-1815

When enough people volunteer, community patrols have proven to be extremely effective.  To get involved, please contact Kevin Smestad at kevinsmestad@outlook.com.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Neighborhood Crime Watch is a crime prevention program of the Anchorage Police Department.  It is a neighborhood and community based effort, and one of the most effective ways to reduce property crimes and increase safety in residential areas. To set up a neighborhood watch in your area, call 786-8585, email ncw@muni.org or visit: http://www.muni.org/departments/police/ncw/Pages/default.aspx

ANCHORAGE CRIME STOPPERS

See something or have information to share about a crime? Help law enforcement reduce and solve crime by reporting what you know online at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com or by calling 561-STOP (7867).  Tips can be anonymous.
